During Museum Night, the City Museum of Trogir presented a selection of Joško Marušić’s political cartoons published in the weekly Danas from 1982 to 1992

For Museum Night on January 30, 2026, the City Museum of Trogir displayed a selection of caricatures by Joško Marušić from the weekly Danas (1982–1992). The exhibition was opened by Aleksandra Bilić Petričević, senior curator of the Museum, and also featured speeches by Prof. Ana Marušić and the artist Joško Marušić. Numerous visitors were able to view the cartoons as a satirical analysis of political and social life at a turning point in Croatian history, when Croatia left the socialist system and became an independent state after the Homeland War.

Exhibition of Joško Marušić’s Political Cartoons from the Weekly Danas (1982–1992)

On September 15, 2025, the University Gallery in Split hosted the ceremonial opening of Joško Marušić’s exhibition “TODAY we are, tomorrow we are not: Cartoons from the weekly Danas (1982–1992)”, organized in collaboration with the Ana Marušić Foundation. The gallery was filled to capacity as distinguished guests from the worlds of culture, science, and public life gathered to view fifty reproduced and six original cartoons created during a time of profound social and political transformation.

The exhibition was officially opened by Rector Prof. Dr. Dragan Ljutić, with additional remarks by Prof. Dr. Ana Marušić and the artist himself. The program was moderated by Gallery Director Helena Trze Jakelić. In the exhibition catalogue, curator Tea Luburić described Marušić’s work for Danas as “a sharp satirical analysis of political and social life”, while the author emphasized the importance of seeing how contemporary students respond to themes drawn from previous decades.

The following day, September 16, 2025, the University Gallery hosted the round table “No Censorship, Please”, which brought together cartoonists, artists, and journalists for a spirited discussion on censorship, humor, and the social role of satire. With lively audience participation, the debate often resembled a fast-paced game of picigin, marked by witty exchanges and humor.

Panelists included Joško Marušić, Igor Brešan, Marko Ivić, Veljko Popović, Vladimir Davidenko, and Mladen Vuković, who all underscored the importance of freedom of expression while also acknowledging the persistent presence of self-censorship in artistic and media spheres. The program was moderated by Helena Trze Jakelić and Anđela Boljat.
